The use of burn ointments can be a solution to deal with burns on the skin. However, do not use it carelessly. Make sure the type of burn ointment that is used in accordance with the severity of the wound, so that the results of treatment are maximum.
Burns are skin injuries caused by exposure to temperature or heat, radiation, radioactive, electricity, or chemicals. The degree of burns consists of three levels of severity, wherein damage to the skin tissue and the extent and depth of the wound at each different level.
Types of Burn Ointments and their Benefits
In first degree burns, the skin is generally not blistered but has inflammation, redness and mild swelling of the skin. While second-degree burns are characterized by pain in the wound, reddened skin, swelling and blistering. While third-degree burns, can cause skin to appear white or black, scorched and possibly numb. To deal with burns, you need to use an ointment that matches the severity:1. Bacitracin ointment
Bacitracin ointment can be used to treat minor burns or first degree burns. These burn ointments contain antibiotics that are useful for stopping, preventing, and treating skin infections caused by bacteria. Although bacitracin ointment is sold freely, try to always consult a doctor before using it. In some conditions, such as extensive burns, the use of bacitracin ointment is not recommended.2. Aloe vera ointment
Aloe vera creams or ointments can also be used to treat first and second degree burns. Aloe vera can treat burns because it is able to improve blood circulation, inhibit bacterial growth, and contain anti-inflammatory agents. Research shows that burns treated by aloe vera or ointment tend to heal faster than those treated by silver sulfadiazine ointment. However, this matter still needs further investigation.3. Silver sulfadiazine ointment
Burns caused by hot water, hot oil, or hot irons can be treated with burn ointments containing silver sulfadiazine. This ointment helps healing burns by stopping and preventing infection from spreading to the surrounding skin. Although it can treat second degree burns, the use of this ointment can also cause the area of the skin to be applied sensitive to sunlight. So, it is recommended to protect the burn area from sun exposure when using silver sulfadiazine ointment.4. Mafenide acetate ointment
Mafenide acetate ointment can also be used to treat burns. This type of burn ointment kills bacteria and reduces the risk of bacteria spreading to the surrounding skin or into the bloodstream. This ointment is also useful for treating severe burns or 3rd degree burns. In addition to burn ointments, there are also natural ingredients that can help treat minor burns, such as honey. You can also use cucumbers to treat sunburned skin. But remember, it's best to consult a doctor before applying honey, cucumber, or other natural ingredients to burns. Make sure you use a burn ointment that matches the condition of the burn, so the wound can heal immediately. If the burn does not improve or worsen, consult a doctor immediately.- Dermaga Apung HDPE
